Footage from my DJI Mini 3
It was a long time since I had ticked off any more peaks on my Mourne 500s quest. There were a couple of reasons for that; I had ticked off most of the low hanging fruit already. By that I mean the peaks that have shelter in the form of the Mourne Wall. Anyone who knows the Mournes will know that it is often a windy place and nights with low enough wind speeds to camp on unsheltered summits are rare.
The other reason is that life just got in the way. Our family had started and although yes, time was still spent in the Mournes, it was on more gentle slopes like Hen Mountain when our girls were younger. My desire to camp on all of the Mourne 500s fell to the side.

The girls settled in early
As the girls got older we introduced them to camping, first in the garden and then on the lower reaches of the Mournes like Hen Mountain. My oldest daughter has recently camped on Slieve Commedagh with me although it was as a family we camped on Slievenamuck.
It was a lovely mild evening and we took the short route up from Ott carpark to the summit.
I of course had the drone in the air, taking advantage of the conditions. The girls reached the summit first, having already been up before and familiar with the short route and also carrying much less weight than my wife and I.
Sunset What a camping spot
I got the tents set up while the girls played and enjoyed the evening. They were asleep relatively early thanks to an energetic school fun day earlier in the day. This left my wife and I to enjoy the stunning sunset.
